No love for a like

-

Have to say, all these years after they first started mucking up people’s minds, I just don’t get “likes” on social media. And I don’t mean I don’t receive them. I just don’t get them. I can’t fathom out why it’s so important to receive an online thumbs-up, or a heart from someone you don’t even know, nor care about? Even the inventor of the meaningless symbols, Leah Perlman, admitted this week that she became addicted to the totally devoid-of-sincerity feedback from strangers. What? WHY?

Now, if a stranger came up to me in the street and hugged me, that WOULD mean something – it would make me feel great.

A smile or a hug from a face-to-face stranger warms my cockles. Loathsome, cowardly trolls, or people I don’t know who “like” my thoughts, mean nothing to me. They don’t justify me – OK, maybe if it was Barack Obama, I’d get a little excited. But only just.
