STRIKES by Ryanair cabin crew could ruin or disrupt thousands of holidays this month.

Staff in Italy will take industrial action for 24 hours on July 25, while those in Spain, Portugal and Belgium will walk out for 48 hours on July 25 and 26.

They join 100 Irish pilots, who plan to strike on Thursday next week.

Staff say the Ireland-based budget airline has not done enough to improve working conditions since recognising unions in December. Cabin crew across Europe published 34 demands on Wednesday, including a “fair living wage” and improved sick pay.

Flight attendants have said they have to physically report to work when ill to give written details of symptoms. The

International Transport Workers’ Federation, an umbrella body assisting Ryanair crew unions, claimed the airline had not held genuine talks about working conditions. Campaigns director Liz Blackshaw said: “Ryanair needs to sit down with the unions and actually address the conditions of work being complained about.”

Ryanair said it wanted to negotiate but needed strikes to be called off.

It tweeted this week: “Ryanair again calls on Forsa [Irish trade union] to call off, or at least postpone, next Thursday’s pilots strike and meet... to negotiate these issues.”
