‘Dying’ mum sells up... then docs say they got it wrong

- BY ANNA RILEY

A WOMAN says a doctor told her she was dying and sold family heirlooms to pay for her funeral – only for the medics to inform her they had got it wrong.

Julie Shann, 55, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and warned she had “very little” time left, she claims.

She sold her gran’s rings and precious antiques to cover funeral costs – but told how, a month later, experts at Hull Royal Infirmary said she had never had the disease, and that her GP was not qualified to give her the diagnosis. Ms Shann said: “I tried to stay strong for my kids [beforehand] but behind closed doors I cried and cried. It was horrible to think every day could have been my last.” She is still campaigning for answers three years later. Ms Shann’s GP practice did not comment when contacted.
