The Diary

UMPIRES will be keeping an eye out for anyone who lets their interest in the football interrupt today’s tennis.

There is no official Wimbledon policy and security guards are not under orders to crack down on anyone sneakily trying to watch the World Cup.

So it will be up to umpires to deal with any disturbance caused by fans trying to watch England on their devices court-side.

The clash between today’s action and England’s huge World Cup quarter-final against Sweden is one SW19 officials could have done without.

As much as they can control it, the All England Club will be a “football-free zone”.

None of the public TV screens in the grounds or in hospitality will show anything other than tennis.
