WW2 ship explosion shows its hue colours

A PLUME of smoke rises as British troops invade Sicily in the Second World War.

These dramatic images have been colourised on the 75th anniversar­y of Operation Husky in July, 1943.

US “liberty ship” the SS Robert Rowan

was hit by a German Ju 88 bomber, causing a cargo of munitions to explode.

Other pictures, coloured by Cardiff electricia­n Royston Leonard, include Gen Bernard Montgomery shaking hands with Lt Gen George Patton.
