Our page one comment addressed the need for racial equality following attacks by white thugs on Asian, mainly Bengali, immigrants in East London. We called for the authoritie­s to bring the perpetrato­rs to justice.

33 YEARS AGO (1985)

Unseeded German Boris Becker became the youngest tennis player to win the men’s singles at Wimbledon aged 17. Becker beat the No8 seed Kevin Curren in four sets.

13 YEARS AGO (2005)

Suicide bombers targeted London’s public transport system, killing 52. Three bombs exploded on the Tube on the Circle line near Aldgate and at Edgware Road and on the Piccadilly line near Russell Square, while a fourth device detonated on a double-decker bus in Tavistock Square.
