Workers take fresh action over blacklist
CONSTRUCTION workers who were illegally blacklisted and unable to find work for years are launching fresh legal action.
Unite union started proceedings so nine men get a public hearing. It wants an inquiry on the scandal.
One, a Glasgow-based electrician, ended up going to the Far East to work. It led to his marriage failing.
His blacklist file said he was an “extreme troublemaker” and “never employ under any circumstances”.
The file on a carpenter from Birmingham said: “A real pain in the neck. Wouldn’t like anyone else to be landed with him.”
About £75million has been out paid since a database used by 44 firms to vet union and safety activists came to light in 2009.
