Our front page revealed Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs had escaped from Wandsworth Prison. Biggs fled to Brazil where he lived for nearly 40 years.

An earthquake shook the Greek islands of Amorgos and Santorini. It triggered a tsunami which left 53 people dead and 100 hurt.

34 YEARS AGO (1984)

A huge fire devastated parts of York Minister and caused over £2.5million worth of damage after it was struck by lightning.
