JOE ROOT has been told to take a leaf out of Eoin Morgan’s book of ruthlessness after feeling the sting of rejection.

Root (right) was axed from Morgan’s England T20 side that lost to India on Sunday.

Morgan’s leadership has been characterised by clear, clinical decision-making – but Root’s first year at Test skipper has been a fuzzy, inconsistent muddle. Coach Paul Farbrace said: “I’m sure Joe was bitterly disappointed to be left out.

“Players learn from players and I’m sure he’ll be watching the way Morgs talks to the team, the way he goes about things, the way that he makes the decisions that he makes. I think he’ll definitely learn from that.

“If we are to be successful in T20 cricket, Joe will play a magnificent, big part in that.”
