Left to rot by mum & grandma
Pair guilty of teen manslaughter
THE mother and gran of a teenager left to “rot to death” were yesterday found guilty of his manslaughter.
Jordan Burling, 18, was lying on a filthy mattress and wearing a soiled nappy when paramedics found his lifeless body.
He weighed under six stone, was covered with sores and an expert likened his condition to that of a death camp victim.
Mum Dawn Cranston, 45, and gran Denise, 70, were responsible for his care but neglected him for unknown reasons, a trial at Leeds crown court heard. When police attended their home in Farnley, Leeds, they found the remains of a newborn baby. Dawn had admitted concealing the birth of a child by secretly disposing of the body. Jordan’s sister Abigail Burling, 25, was found not guilty of manslaughter but convicted of causing or allowing the death of a vulnerable person. Gerry Wareham, of the CPS, said: “These women had a duty of care towards Jordan. Instead they allowed him to rot to death.” Jordan had been home-schooled since age 12. All three women are due to be sentenced tomorrow.
