Today is about one thing and one thing only – England’s World Cup semi-final against Croatia, the biggest match the Three Lions have played in nearly three decades. Win and they’ll be in their first final since 1966 and in with a shot at unbelievable glory.
England stormed to victory against Sweden on Saturday, securing a place in the semis for the first time in 28 years.
Fans took to the streets to celebrate and Football’s Coming Home has been ringing out ever since. The result spawned dozens of hilarious, often Ikea-related, jokes at Sweden’s expense. And waistcoat sales have rocketed – with Marks & Spencer doing a roaring trade, inspired by the sartorial elegance of England manager Gareth Southgate.
After years of disappointment, we can hardly allow ourselves to believe what’s happening – but practically the entire nation will be tuning in tonight to see if Harry Kane and his boys can keep delivering the dream.
