CR7 signs £100M Juve deal as Real target Neymar

- BY DARREN LEWIS

JUVENTUS have snapped up Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid in a sensational £100million deal.

The transfer has made the Portugal superstar, 33, one of the most expensive players of all time. It also brings down the curtain on Ronaldo’s illustrious, nine-year stay at the Bernabeu where he helped Real win four Champions League and two La Liga titles. The Spanish giants are now set to make a blockbuster move for PSG striker Neymar, with Chelsea’s Eden Hazard also a potential replacement.

In a lengthy open letter to Real Madrid’s fans, Ronaldo ( left) said: “I have feelings of enormous gratitude for this club, for its fans and for this city. I can only thank all of them for the love and affection I have received.

“However, I believe that the time has come to open a new stage in my life and that is why I have asked the club to accept transferring me.”

A club statement said: “For Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo will always be one of the great symbols. He has proved to be one of the best in the world.”

Ronaldo joined Real from Manchester United for £80m in 2009 and hit a club-record 451 goals on the way to five Ballons d’Or – in 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
