Harry and glorious...

-

ENGLAND winning the World Cup would crown a glorious summer.

We mustn’t get ahead of ourselves and Croatia tonight will be no pushover yet the country expects Harry Kane and his team to give us the biggest lift since 1966.

What a joy that so many who don’t normally watch football will be cheering around TVs, willing England into Sunday’s final.

Also the inspiring diversity of Gareth Southgate’s youthful team reflects the hopes of a nation tired of political battles and the grind of an economy spluttering badly.

Legendary Liverpool manager Bill Shankly was joking when he quipped: “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it’s much more serious than that.”

What the last few weeks in Russia prove is first that folk enjoy success and love celebrating together. Second, far more unites than divides us. England, keep our dream alive.
