HARRINGTON HAILS HER ALPHA BEATER
ALPHA CENTAURI beat them stone cold in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes at a blazing Newmarket — and will now take on the boys.
The Jessica Harrington-trained Irish 1,000 Guineas and Coronation Stakes heroine set out to make all the running.
And the 4-9 favourite, carrying the famous Niarchos family silks, scorched away from her rivals under Colm O’Donoghue to beat Altyn Orda by four and a half lengths.
“She’s absolutely unbelievable,” said Harrington, the Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer who is now plundering the top Flat prizes with Europe’s outstanding three-year-old.
“She was just hacking along and quickened up. She just has a very high cruising speed and, for the size of her, she loves that ground.
“She’ll probably go to Deauville next for the Prix Jacques le Marois [on 12 August].”
O’Donoghue beamed: “She’s ice cold and a very special filly.”
