BBC ‘will not fight Sir Cliff privacy rap’
THE BBC will not appeal against the Sir Cliff Richard privacy ruling as chiefs are wary of a public backlash, according to reports.
The broadcaster is already facing an estimated £1.8million legal bill after losing the case.
It was also ordered to pay the singer £210,000 in damages over its reporting, using a helicopter to cover a police raid on his home in August 2014.
The BBC named Sir Cliff, 77, as the subject of the investigation, which was dropped two years later.
Sources told the Sunday Telegraph that if it were to lose at the Court of Appeal, it would face further legal costs of around £200,000.
A BBC spokesman said: “We are still deciding whether to appeal or not.”
