She’s gone brunette and escaped major labels to go independen­t but Nina is keen to learn from the big name bands she tours with

Yet to release her second album, Scottish singer songwriter and sometime model Nina Nesbitt has already carved out a colourful career. She’s written songs for Jessie Ware, and this summer wrote and recorded Psychopath with breakthrou­gh stars Charlotte Lawrence and Sasha Sloan for Spotify’s Stronger Together campaign.

Before the now-brunette Nina, 24, even released her 2014 debut album Peroxide, she toured with and dated Ed Sheeran.

Ed wrote three songs based on their relationsh­ip, including the revealing Nina – not that she’s embarrasse­d.

“I’m a songwriter, and the songs I write are very, very honest,” she says. “People probably know who most of the songs are about from reading the lyrics. So to have one written about me has not really bothered me, you know. It’s like, it’s a moment in time and I think songwritin­g is so cool because it can document a moment.

“And you can look back at that for years, whether it be good or bad. It doesn’t really bother me.”

Nina is “really proud” of the success Sheeran has had since they parted.

Though she’s yet to meet her teenage idol Taylor Swift, she’s learned from every act she’s toured with, including Justin Bieber, who she had a night out with singing karaoke.

“I think everyone’s got their own craft,” she says. “Ed’s got amazing crowd control and he can hold a stadium with an acoustic guitar.

“Example is more like a raving audience, and Little Mix, they’re proper performers. I just think you can learn from anyone you tour with.”
