BLUES RUSSIAN TO SALUTE THEIR WORLD CHAMPIONS

- BY TONY BANKS

CHELSEA’S players had a present when for World Cup winners Olivier Giroud and N’Golo Kante when they arrived back at the club this week from their triumph in Russia.

France stars Giroud and Kante returned to the club’s Cobham training ground on Monday to find miniature World Cups placed on top of their lockers by their teammates.

Giroud played in all seven matches in Russia, leading the attack for Didier Deschamps’ side as France won their second World Cup. The Chelsea striker bizarrely didn’t have a shot on target in 13 attempts, but his link-up play was crucial to his country’s triumph.

Giroud said: “Everyone said congratulations when we got back. They gave us a fake World Cup and put it above our lockers. We are very proud of it, me and N’Golo. It’s for life.”

But the 31 year old says his success won’t change him. He added: “I’m someone who doesn’t like to show off. I’m quite humble and N’Golo is even more humble than me.”
