DISAPPOINTED PULIS RULES OUT PROMOTION

- BY SIMON BIRD

TONY PULIS has blasted Middlesbrough for their failings in the transfer window – and claimed his squad is not good enough to get promoted.

The team sit top of the table, but boss Pulis (left) has delivered another brutal assessment of the club’s buying and selling this summer. The sales of Adama Traore, Patrick Bamford and Ben Gibson shored up finances, but Boro missed out on “up to eight” deals.

They face former boss Garry Monk’s Birmingham today and Pulis said: “The squad hasn’t got the depth or the quality to win promotion. We missed out last year because we lacked quality in areas. I don’t think we’ve improved that so far. We’re disappointed.”

Boro could still sign Mo Besic and Yannick Bolasie on loan from Everton.

Pulis said: “There are still openings to do stuff. We went for quite a few players and did not get them over the line.”
