SPIREITES ON A ROCK AND ROLL

- BY IAN BAKER

MARTIN ALLEN credits “rock and roll football” for CHESTERFIELD’S perfect start to the season.

Curtis Weston scored the only goal of the game against BRAINTREE to make it three wins out of three for a club aiming for an immediate return to the Football League.

The Spireites have yet to concede and boss Allen said: “I thought it was awesome.

“The crowd were very patient with us. We’ve got to get better and we will get better.

“This has only just started, this place has only just started to rock and roll.”

HALIFAX also have a 100 per cent record after beating MAIDSTONE 3-0 through Cameron King, Ben Tomlinson and a Dayle Southwell penalty and top the Vanarama National on goal difference.

Two other teams have nine points from three games – GATESHEAD, 2-1 winners over DOVER with Robbie Tinkler and Luke Armstrong on target for the Tynesiders, and SOLIHULL MOORS, who defeated ALDERSHOT 1-0 thanks to Danny Wright.

Another former Football League side, WREXHAM, are also off to a convincing start.

The North Wales side thrashed BOREHAM WOOD 3-0 with goals from Jordan Maguire-Drew, Rekeil Pyke and Mike Fondop-Talom and have three clean sheets.

Boss Sam Ricketts said: “We’ve quality, that’s why we ended up scoring three goals. We’ve quality at the other end too, that’s why we kept the ball out the net.

“But it’s the first week of the season. If I was stood here now with no points, I’d probably be saying the same thing – it’s the first week of the season.

“There’s a long way to go and we need to improve.”
