Defoe is preaching Surman
ANDREW SURMAN is seeking inspiration from veteran Bournemouth team-mate Jermain Defoe to prolong his Premier League career.
The 32-year-old midfielder is set to make his 200th Cherries appearance at home to Everton tomorrow.
The ex-Southampton ace said: “I feel good, physically. A lot of people talk about your age when you get to 30 but I look after myself and my body.
“Jermain has signed a three-year deal and is still as sharp as anything.
“He looks after himself and is a great role model, especially for players like me and coming into what some people might say is the way out of my career.
“I don’t see it like that, I still feel strong and am enjoying my football.
“Everyone adapts their game. When he first started as an 18-year-old, he was probably lightning. As you get older and maybe lose that yard, you have to change.
“When I was younger I used to run around a lot without really touching the ball and wasting a lot of energy.
“I still work hard but it is a more effective.”
