3 new coins to celebrate Cook’s tours
THE first of three commemorative £2 coins marking the 250th anniversary of Captain James Cook’s voyages has been unveiled by the Royal Mint.
In August 1768, Cook sailed out of Plymouth on the Endeavour.
The three-year voyage was the first of three such journeys for the pioneer, during which he circumnavigated the world twice.
The £2 coins, released each year from now to 2020 to reflect Cook’s voyage “in real time”, are for sale at royalmint.com.
