added: “My work is doing really well. That’s just making me focus on that and the future and everything. I’ve just got to get on with life and just carry on. I love my job, it’s all fine. Happy.”

Another important part of her life is her 28-year-old pony Rosie, which has been with her since childhood.

Josie said: “It was sort of the pony that I rode but my mum rode as well. I could ride her when I was a bit older. I did ride her for a long time. Now she’s quite old, I take her for walks.”

Asked if it has been a comfort to ride the pony she had once shared with her beloved mother, she said: “Yeah, I think I always like riding, and Rosie’s such a good pony. She’s hard to catch but when I ride her she’s fine.”

Iwan proposed on Christmas Day in 2016. She said: “It was on Christmas morning. Iwan gave me chocolates and said, ‘Sorry, I didn’t get you much’. “Then he produced the ring – a diamond solitaire and said, ‘Happy Christmas’. “He did offer to get down on one knee and propose but I told him he didn’t have to. It was a wonderful moment, because Iwan is not only a wonderful man, he’s also my best friend.” Yesterday she told ITV’s Lorraine show that they have no immediate plans to marry or start a family. She told presenter Lorraine Kelly: “Just one day when we’re less busy maybe. At the moment we’re just happy being engaged.” But she has not ruled out having children, saying: “‘We haven’t said anything, but maybe one day when we have more time.” Michael Stone, 57, from Gillingham, Kent, was jailed for life in 1998 after being convicted of the murders of Lin Russell, 45, and six-year-old Megan. The jury had believed three jail inmates who claimed he had confessed. However, one later said they had lied and another was discredited.

But the third stuck to his story, and at retrial in 2001 Stone was convicted again by a second jury.

But he has always protested his innocence, and serial killer Levi Bellfield, 50, has been linked to Lin and Megan’s murder.

Bellfield, serving life for three murders, including that of schoolgirl Milly Dowler, allegedly told another prisoner he was responsible for the Chillenden killings.

It was claimed that he provided details of the scene that could have only been known by the real culprit.

Bellfield has denied it and said he was at a birthday party more than 100 miles away at the time of the murders.

His version of events has been backed up by his ex-wife Jo Collings.

She said in a TV interview last year: “I hate to say it – but, hand on my heart, I can say he didn’t do it.”

For survivor Josie, life goes on – and it is shaping up to be a good one.
