Plea to Egypt for help on hotel deaths mystery

-

NO GO On The Voice Kids with judge Danny Jones VICTIMS John and Susan A CORONER has demanded Egyptian authorities hand over documents about the deaths of two British tourists in a Red Sea resort last month, but warned it could take “months, if not years”.

The inquest heard how Susan Cooper, 63, and her husband John, 69, stayed at the five-star Steigenberger Aqua Magic Hotel in Hurghada.

They were in a room with granddaughter Molly, 12, while their daughter Kelly stayed in a different room with her two other children.

The night before they died, the couple had both eaten liver from the hotel buffet before returning to their room.

Dr James Addeley told the hearing in Preston, Lancs: “They noticed an acetone type smell replaced by what is described by the granddaughter as a funny or musty smell.”

At 1.15am, Molly complained the smell was making her feel sick and went to stay in her mum’s room. Kelly, 40, went to her parents’ room the next morning and found them unwell.

Her father collapsed and could not be revived. His wife had a heart attack on the way to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

As he opened and adjourned the inquest, Dr Addeley said he had received one document from the Egyptians, which stated the Coopers had died from E.coli and the strange smell was from pesticides sprayed in the adjoining room.

He would be asking for more details, but said: “I have no law that compels Egyptian authorities to co-operate with us.” The Coopers’ funeral will be held today in Burnley, Lancs.
