SHORE THING Models parade at Chanel show SOLD OUT Paul Martin shows off antique on air

BBC’S Flog It! is being axed after 16 years to make way for a “new generation of daytime shows”.

The remaining pre-recorded episodes of the antiques format – fronted by Paul Martin – will run early next year before the show goes off air.

Defending the huge disappointment for around a million Flog It! viewers, Controller of Daytime Dan McGolpin said: “If we’re trying to create the new generation, then some of the longrunning shows will have to go.”

Martin said: “I’ve loved my time on BEACH IS BACK Pam Anderson Flog It! but after over 1,000 episodes, all good things must come to an end.”

McGolpin has unveiled six new offers for daytime, including the Nick Knowles-fronted amateur painting contest Home is Where the Art is.

Other contenders for the Flog It! slot are Britain’s Housing Scandal, fronted by Matt Allwright and The Best House in Town, in which homeowners compete to impress their neighbours.

“The ideas we have are hugely scalable, modern and accessible lots of fun and hugely relevant to people across the UK,” McGolpin insisted.

Flog It!, in which viewers bring in antiques to be valued, has run for 16 seasons since 2002. In 2011, it had 1.62 million viewers on BBC2. By July this year it was at 1.08 million on BBC1, which is good for daytime TV.

Martin added: “I’m looking forward to my new show Make Me A Dealer and another show that is under wraps.”
