Halt rollout and ‘human misery’

UNIVERSAL credit must be halted and reviewed as it is causing “human misery”, an ex civil service chief says. Lord Kerslake, who chairs housing association Peabody, also challenged No10’s claim people will not lose out. The crossbench peer asked: “Why are we seeing consistent rises in the number of people with arrears in UC?”

He added: “Given the human misery it creates when it goes wrong, it’s important for Government to get it right.”
