Roma fan is accused of ‘lashing out’

INJURIES Sean Cox, 53 A ROMA fan lashed out at a Liverpool supporter as he fell during a joint attack, a court has heard.

Filippo Lombardi, 21, denies causing grievous bodily harm to Sean Cox, 53, outside Anfield before a Champions League semifinal on April 24.

Preston crown court heard how Mr Cox, a family man from Dunboyne, Ireland, had been confronted by a mob of chanting Italians, some wielding belts.

Prosecutor Neville Biddle said Lombardi struck the victim as he went down from a punch from another man.

Alison Gurden, defending, said there was no dispute Mr Cox suffered catastrophic injuries but her client wasn’t to blame.
