Cowboys get bullet in new student fancy dress rules
A STUDENTS’ union has banned wearing Stetson hats as fancy dress in case they offend cowboys.
Mexican sombreros are also barred at parties under new rules, along with outfits referencing Native Americans, priests, nuns and chavs.
Kent University Students’ Union said the rules, which students backed, ensure everyone the “right to a safe space”. Guidelines
BANNED Stetson hat state that “dressing as a particular race, culture or stereotype is offensive”. The rules also bar dressing as sexshame celebrities like Jimmy Savile. And blacklisted historical or religious themes include “the Crusades, Nazi, ISIS bomber, Israeli soldier and the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him)”.
But students can dress up as aliens, cavemen and ancient Greeks and Romans. The union was contacted for comment.
