Quest to find Navy medals

-

A MAN who spent £10,000 over 20 years tracking down his late dad’s old war medals is going to put them on public display.

Seaman Samuel Bannister earned the medals when his ship, the HMS Amethyst, was captured by the Chinese in the 1949 Yantze Incident.

But he was forced to sell them to pay bills in the 50s.

His son Andrew, 51, will donate them for a display on HMS Caroline in Belfast next year. He said: “I think he would be pleased.”
