SCOTS SNUB TO GAZZA
PAUL GASCOIGNE has been dramatically axed from the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.
Rangers and England legend Gazza was set to be inducted at a Hampden dinner on October 21 but the nomination was met with fierce opposition in some quarters – with SFA board members
FROM BACK PAGE poised to snub the dinner in protest. The Scottish Football Hall of Fame insisted the troubled star’s health was a factor along with “ongoing enquires” surrounding him.
The choice of Gascoigne was controversial due to concerns over his associations with domestic abuse, racist language and sectarianism. He won two titles in three years at Ibrox but a statement said: “Due to a number of factors it has been decided to withdraw his nomination.”
