STRICTLY Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood says if the show’s “curse” breaks up couples, it is a “blessing”, because they were never meant to be together.
Comedian Seann Walsh was dumped by his girlfriend after he was filmed kissing his married dance partner Katya Jones outside a pub.
The Strictly “curse” has resulted in a number of competitors splitting from their partners after performing on the BBC show. But Craig, 53, said: “I think of it as a blessing actually, to be honest.
“If you come on Strictly, sometimes you are in a relationship that is not working anyway. People, if they are in love or married, end up being absolutely faithful to one another because of that love. It does not mean you are going to fall in love with your dancer.”
He said of the temptation resulting from competitors’ intimate routines: “You are up close and personal with that person, but there has to be something wrong in your relationship before it all goes awry anyway.”
Seann and Katya publicly apologised after the kiss. Seann was quickly ditched by actor Rebecca Humphries, 32. But Katya, 29, said her five-year marriage to fellow Strictly pro dancer Neil Jones is “absolutely fine”. Despite calls for Seann and Katya to be sacked, they will perform on Saturday. Craig said: “Keep them in the show, make them do the dance of shame. As they’ve done, you apologise. But get on with the job.”
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show alongside fellow judges Shirley Ballas, 58, and Darcey Bussell, 49, Craig downplayed the kiss. He said: “It can happen in any industry. If you were at your Christmas party and you snogged the boss, you would still have to do the walk of shame on the Monday, wouldn’t you?”
Seann and Katya are favourites to get the boot on Sunday. But Shirley urged viewers to “judge the dancing and not the relationship or anything else”. She also gave a dancing lesson to fellow guest, former footballer Peter Crouch, as the ex-England star revealed he would like to go on Strictly one day. ■ The Jonathan Ross Show: Saturday, 9.50pm, ITV.
