Campaigner urges change after shock find V

A WASHING-up liquid bottle produced more than 60 years ago has washed up on a beach.

Experts believe the Doby bottle dates to the mid1950s but it is not known how long it was in the ocean.

The latest shock example of pollution blighting our seas was discovered in the shingle at Lee-on-the-Solent, Hants, during summer.

The weathered white bottle reads: “Super Doby. Washing-up liquid. Thawpit Limited. Manchester.”

The Museum of Plastic Design at the University of Bournemouth compared the bottle with one it has from the mid-1950s and said it was “almost identical”.

A clean-up volunteer who found the bottle, and posts under the Instagram handle beachcleangirl, said: “The natural world is slowly dying at the hands of humans.

“We all need to take a long hard look at our disposable lifestyles and make significant changes.”

Last month, we revealed how photographer Jason Alexander found old rubbish on beaches in Suffolk.

It included a M&S carrier bag from 1984 and a catering lid from ferry firm Sealink, which wound up in 1984.
