Workers from the new Rover assembly plant at Longbridge, West Midlands, demonstrate outside Leyland House, Coventry, over plans to introduce night shifts. Following its nationalisation in 1975, British Leyland was crippled by strikes, many instigated by shop steward Derek Robinson, or Red Robbo, as he was dubbed by the media. The company alleged he was behind 523 disputes at the Longbridge plant which, at the time, was Britain’s largest factory.
