Ramsey: I’m staying at Arsenal for the rest of the season.. I want to achieve something special

AARON RAMSEY has revealed he won’t quit Arsenal in January over his contract wrangle – because the club can “achieve something special” this season.

The midfielder is out of contract in the summer and attracting freetransfer interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and AC Milan.

Ramsey says he thought he had agreed a new deal to stay with the Gunners long term – “but that’s no longer the case.”

However, the 27-year-old is convinced he will be part of a successful season under Unai Emery (below right, with Ramsey) whose side have won nine games in a row.

Ramsey said: “Will I stay for the rest of the season? Of course, yeah.

“I am contracted to Arsenal and I am going to do my best now this season to try and achieve something special. Everything has been going great with the club.”

As revealed by Mirror Sport, Arsenal withdrew an offer that looked set to keep the player at the club. Ramsey said: “We thought we were in a position where we had agreed a deal but that’s no longer the case. So I just have to carry on playing my football and do my best for Arsenal and I’ll leave the rest with the club. That’s a decision they have made and you just have to carry on playing the best you can, that’s all I am concentrating on.”

Ramsey’s Wales side struggled against a brilliant Spain on Thursday night, and will now regroup ahead of Ireland next week.

He added: “It was a tough game. We just have to hold our hands up and we weren’t good enough.

“They beat the World Cup runners-up Croatia 6-0 and we couldn’t live with them at times.”

Wales beat Ireland 4-1 at home last month but won’t be a soft touch in Dublin on Tuesday.

Boss Ryan Giggs says Gareth Bale is unlikely to be fit and Ramsey added: “That’s going to be a blow. We know how important he is for us. “We know it is going to be difficult there but we are all looking forward to what will be a real

test.”
