Arnautovic, revitalised at the London Stadium under Manuel Pellegrini, broke the deadlock 20 minutes from time, ghosting in behind Paddy McNair and firing a shot past Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Will Grigg thought he had earned a draw for the Irish five minutes from time, only to see his header towards the back post hit the inside of the woodwork and rebound into Heinz Lindner’s hands.
