UN sanctions as hate cleric leaves prison

- BY TOM PARRY

HATE preacher Anjem Choudary will be hit by UN sanctions when he is freed from jail this week.

The head of the banned al-Muhajiroun terror organisation will have served half of a five-and-ahalf-year sentence for supporting Islamic State.

Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt is believed to have pressed the Security Council for action.

UN member states must now freeze his assets, bar him from their countries and stop any weapons reaching him.

Choudary will have to live in a taxpayer-paid safe house in North London and face strict restrictions including a curfew.

His followers included London Bridge attacker Khuram Butt and the killers of Fusilier Lee Rigby.
