Mum of seizures tot in treatment plea to judge

- Amyclare.martin@mirror.co.uk

A MOTHER begged a judge to stop doctors ending life support for her severely disabled baby.

The two-month-old boy has severe brain abnormality that triggers near-continuous seizures and is in “poor condition”, said hospital doctors who want to give him palliative care only.

But the mum said he deserves “every chance he can have”.

She told the High Court: “When you call his name he looks at you. When you do nose-to-nose he likes it and he has a little smile. He loves his dummy.” She said her son ought to have breathing help and doctors should try resuscitation, adding: “I just want everything to be tried.”

Ms Justice Russell, who said the child and the hospital in northern England must not be identified, is expected to give her decision soon. ■ The legal battles by the parents of tragic youngsters Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans to fight for treatment cost taxpayers £473,000 in total, it has been revealed.
