Vitamins are ‘risk to bone’

TAKING too many vitamin A pills as a supplement to diet may weaken bones, research suggests.

A study found too much of the vitamin – contained in oily fish, meat, dairy products and vegetables – can lead to osteoporos­is.

Scientists at Sweden’s Gothenburg University noted major loss of bone strength in mice given up to 13 times the recommende­d limit for humans.

Expert Dr Ulf Lerner said: “In most cases a balanced diet is sufficient.”
