£65k fine for 4 fingers lost
THE Co-op has been fined £65,000 after a worker lost four fingers in a meat mincing machine.
Jose Escorcio, 29, also lost a significant part of his right hand and needed reconstructive surgery.
The machine at the Co-op’s Grand Marche, St Helier, Jersey, had no safety guard and Jose had not been formally trained to use it, a Jersey court heard.
Co-op chief executive Colin Macleod said: “We failed one of our Co-op family on this occasion.”
