Luis learning all the lingo

- FROM JOHN CROSS in Seville

LUIS ENRIQUE has been taking English lessons from Gareth Southgate.

Spain boss Enrique (above) admitted he is a big admirer of Southgate and even studied his press conferences during the World Cup in the summer.

The ex-Barcelona coach was keen on moving to England before taking the Spain job and says he has picked up some of the lingo from his opposite number.

Enrique said: “I like Southgate as a manager. I have followed his work, including his press conferences, because I like how he speaks and I was learning English from him!

“I hope against Spain he doesn’t have luck but, after the match finishes, I wish him all the luck in the world.”

Enrique, whose team can clinch their qualification as the Nations League group winners tonight, has briefed his players on what to expect from England.

“Aerial threat is one of the English virtues,” he said. “They really exploited it during the World Cup and we have to be alert. We have to try to ensure they get a minimum of free-kicks and corners. Counter-attacks are another of their virtues.”
