BEST TESTS ARE PICK OF THE BUNCH

- FROM JOHN CROSS

JORDAN PICKFORD believes England are showing signs of major improvement thanks to testing themselves against the best.

England reached the World Cup semi-finals and this will be their second meeting with Spain in the Nations League in Seville and Pickford says they are benefiting from the experience.

The Three Lions keeper said: “I think our last six games have been against top-10 opponents and it’s a great test for us.

“It’s a great game to be playing in, putting our talent and ability against a top side.

“Last month we were unlucky not to get the draw, I think it was down to a refereeing decision, we were unfortunate not to get. We need to build on that and hopefully be tough in this arena – the stadium looks unbelievable.”

It is 38 years since an England keeper, Peter Shilton, kept a clean sheet in Spain and Pickford is determined to emulate one of the nation’s all-time greats.

He added: “My main aim is to go into every game and try to keep a clean sheet for the team. If that’s by not making a save that’s ideal.

“I prepare with the other lads to keep the clean sheet. All I can do is my best, if that’s to keep a clean sheet that’s great.”
