ROOKIES CASH IN WITH CHIPS

- BY IAN BAKER

ADMIN CLERK Joseph Chipolina filed his own piece of Gibraltar history by handing his country their first ever international win.

The Lincoln Red Imps left-back scored a 50th-minute penalty in a 1-0 victory in Armenia – who had Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan in their side – after Hrayr Mkoyan had fouled Lee Casciaro.

Semi-pro Chipolina (below) said: “We’re over the moon. This result is amazing for us because it is our first points in the Nations League and our first-ever victory.

“We are not pros, we have our own jobs and having to combine one thing with the other is very difficult.

“Before the game, the gaffer told me I was the man to take any penalties. He knows I don’t get nervous. I looked one side, I think the keeper dived that way and I just went the other way.

“You can imagine the relief once it goes in.”
