AUCTION Sammy McIlroy FORMER Manchester United footballer Sammy McIlroy is selling his set of medals, which is expected to fetch £25,000.
The midfielder’s haul includes an FA Cup winner’s medal from 1977 and runners-up medals for the 1976 and 1979 finals.
Sammy, 64, said: “I’m selling because I think it’s time to look to the future and I’ve had my years of enjoyment from them.
“I don’t have to, it’s just the right time.”
The medals, all gold and in their original boxes, are being sold at Stacey’s Auctioneers of Rayleigh, Essex, on October 29.
McIlroy was Sir Matt Busby’s last signing when he joined the Red Devils in 1971. He made 419 appearances for the club – and 89 for Northern Ireland.

Stefan Sylvestre, 30, and Danielle Burke married last December in a proxy wedding, where he was represented in his absence, while he was in HMP High Point Prison, Suffolk.
The couple celebrated his first weekend of freedom on a romantic hotel break – but due to his curfew Sylvestre had to leave his wife each night for his bail hostel.
Sylvestre had booked into the four-star Angel
Hotel in Guildford, Surrey, after going free when a parole board decided he was no longer a danger.
He and mum-ofone Danielle spent much of Friday in their suite, ordering room service burgers and chips.
Sylvestre served nine years of a life term for attacking Katie in 2008 on the orders of her obsessive ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch, who got a minimum 16-year life sentence and is still in prison.
He returned to his bail hostel on Friday evening, adhering to his 9pm to 7am curfew, but was back in the hotel the next morning to order eggs Benedict on room service.

A friend of Danielle’s said: “Once his bail conditions relax, he’s planning on moving in with Danielle and her son. I am wary, though.
“This is a man with a history of extreme violence.
“He says he’s a changed man and wants a family life, and I hope that’s true for Danielle’s sake.”
Danielle has been posting about Sylvestre on social media. One photo shows him asleep with the comment “the husband love of my life”. Another of the couple with heart filters reads: “I love you x infinity.”
She also posted a snap of her son on Sylvestre’s lap captioned “My babies”.
Before her Strictly dance on Saturday, Katie, 35, tweeted: “Using meditation to stay calm.” She was voted out on Sunday. Danielle’s online snap
