Santa’s truck tour ‘elf risk’

A SANTA tour of a town which has delighted generations of kids is under threat because of health and safety fears.

Father Christmas has toured Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham, on a decorated flatbed lorry since the ’60s.

But last year an off-duty officer warned he was breaking the law by travelling on a moving vehicle.

The council is looking at a “re-arrangement” where he rides in the cab and gets out at certain spots. Local Sam Cairns said: “I hope the tradition carries on.”
