GIROUD: FRENCH KIDS MUST FORCE ME OUT

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

The Arsenal legend followed his fellow France stars Marcel Desailly and Patrick Vieira in taking his UEFA A and Pro licences with the Welsh FA in Newport.

Former Cardiff and Swansea player Will Foley complained in 2016 that Henry was “fast-tracked” through the system and received favourable treatment.

But Wales No.2 Osian Roberts, who is also the FAW’s technical director, said: “That is false. Never would Thierry have allowed such a thing.

“He was obsessed with the idea of being treated like all the others. If he got the diploma quicker than the others, it was because he worked like a mad man.

“He is one of the best pupils I have ever had. He has all the attributes to be a top coach. And he is ready for a club like OLIVIER GIROUD has pledged to keep playing for France until the next generation “push me out of the door”.

Chelsea’s World Cup winner, who turned 32 last month, is in line to win his 84th cap against Germany in Paris tonight.

And Giroud (right) said: “The guys at Chelsea, notably Antonio Rudiger, have said to me, ‘Why do you carry on? You are on a high, on top of the world and you are 32’. But it would have been too easy to leave like that. I feel that I am still good enough. I can bring something to the team.

“So if the coach, Didier Deschamps, feels the same thing, I will be available.

“I know too well how much I am going to miss football after France Holland Germany

Giroud’s only goal this season came for France against Holland last month.

“Since the last international break, I have made four consecutive starts in the Premier League,” he said.

“There have been no goals but I have made four assists. All of a sudden, this season, I am going to aim for the title of best passer.”

The striker, who moved from Arsenal in January, has been repeatedly linked with a move to Marseille.

“There was real contact last year, but nothing very concrete this summer,“said Giroud, who is out of contract in 2019 but has the option of a one-year extension.

“I had just arrived in Chelsea and was not going to repack my suitcases three months later.”
