Susanna Reid’s fury at television awards snub
BREAKFAST telly star Susanna Reid has branded the National TV Awards “sexist”.
She hit out after the longlist for Presenter of the Year included 30 men compared to just 13 women.
Good Morning Britain host Susanna was not on the list, but her sidekick Piers Morgan, 53, was.
On Twitter, he said: “Susanna condemns Official NTAs as sexist because I’ve made the Presenter of the Year nominee list.. and she, sadly, has not.” Susanna, 47, tweeted back: “30 men 13 women On the long list. #JustSaying.”
The pair sparred about it on the show. Looking at the list, indig- nant Susanna said: “Do not tell me... there’s 43 names on here, but I’m not on it.” Piers guffawed: “The blokes have got the nod. But no Susanna Reid.”
Rob Beckett, Tom Kerridge and Nick Knowles were also on the list, drawn up by NTAs bosses.
The public will now vote for the winners, who are revealed in January.
A source at the NTAs said the longlists were “compiled by TV ratings”. Presenter of the Year contenders were taken from light or factual entertainment shows, and Susanna did not qualify. The TV Judge category has 10 women out of 29 nominations. Mary Berry, who was on Britain’s Best Home Cook, failed to make it, while Judge Rinder and Romesh Ranganathan did, despite lower ratings.
