£2.5m Lotto winner: I am not fraudster
A £2.5MILLION lottery winner has denied fraudulently claiming the jackpot.
Edward Putman is accused of bagging the prize, which had gone unclaimed, with a faked ticket in September 2009.
The winning numbers 6, 9, 20, 21, 31 and 34, were drawn on March 11 2009 and the ticket was bought in Worcestershire.
Putman hid his face behind a scarf, cap and dark glasses when he arrived by taxi at St Albans magistrates court.
He was freed on bail yesterday and will be tried at St Albans crown court on November 19.
Chairman of the magistrates Geoffrey Halls told Putman, 53, of Kings Langley, Herts: “Please stay close to your legal representative until that date.”
