I’d like to comment on the letter from the woman who’s had failed IVF attempts and, unlike her husband, isn’t keen on egg donation as a last attempt (Dear Coleen, Oct 12).

My story is very similar – I also had several failed IVFs and had egg donation, which also failed. My partner and I decided to close the door on fertility treatment and it was a huge relief for us both.

We took a year out to get our lives back and enjoy being a couple again, and it was the best thing we could have done. We felt stronger and happier, and then began the adoption process.

That was three years ago and we now have a beautiful son. I can’t imagine having any other child – he’s ours in every way – and now I can look back at IVF as just part of the journey. Rachel, via email
