The Mirror revealed this year how one of the most expensive car parks has doubled its prices, hitting staff for up to £2,632 a year.

St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, West Sussex, hiked charges from £6 a day to £11.20.

Outsourcing firm Capita, with pre-tax profits of £80.5million in the half year to June, will take over its latest NHS contract at Colchester General Hospital next month. The price of staff parking permits will almost treble from January.

PDr Chaand Nagpaul, council chairman of the British Medical Association, said: “Staff feel devalued and exploited.”

Sarah Carpenter, of Unite union, added: “It is a scandal.”

A spokeswoman for NHS Improvement said: “As we develop the long-term plan for the NHS, it is right trusts develop their commercial income opportunities.”

In January we told how nurse Vicky Slayford, 38, was hit with £5,500 in fines from private firm Empark UK, despite paying for a staff permit.
