Aberfan hell fireman dies

-

A FIREMAN tasked with washing the faces of children killed in the Aberfan disaster so that they could be identified has died.

Alan Davies, 72, was one of the first on the scene when 116 youngsters and 28 adults died in the South Wales slurry slide in 1966.

He died at home in Worcester on October 6 following a long illness, and leaves wife Audrey, 68.

Friend Andy Roberts said: “What he was asked to do stayed with him throughout his life.”
