DOCTOR Who is about to do battle with a new deadly enemy – racism.

Sunday’s episode centres around Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat in the “colored section” of an Alabama bus to a white passenger.

The outcry over her 1955 arrest sparked the start of the civil rights movement.

In her latest adventure, Time Lord Jodie Whittaker lands in America’s Deep South as an evil alien tries to disrupt the historic confrontation.

She and her team have to ensure the pivotal moment is not sabotaged.

Sidekicks Ryan Sinclair and Yasmin Khan face discrimination as they are refused entry to a motel and both discuss modern racism, too.

Ryan, played by black actor Tosin Cole, says: “It’s not like Rosa Parks wipes out racism from the world forever.

“Otherwise how come I get stopped by police way more than my white mates? Tell me you don’t get it?”

Police officer Yasmin, played by Mandip Gill, replies: “Of course I do, especially on the job.

“I get called a ‘Paki’ when I am sorting out a domestic or a ‘terrorist’ on the way MISSION Jodie as Doctor UNDER ARREST Rosa Parks

home from the mosque. But they don’t win, those people.

“I can be a police officer now because people like Rosa Parks fought for us.

“And in 53 years they will have a black President.

“Who knows where they will be 50 years after that. That is proper change.” ■ Doctor Who: Sunday, BBC1, 6.55pm.
